Payment systems are hitting a breaking point: Legacy infrastructure is now buckling under modern demands for speed, scale, and security. The enterprises that successfully modernize first will have a competitive advantage.

That's what we'll explore on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, when Cockroach Labs and AWS host payments experts at the Atlanta Athletic Club for "Unlock the Future of Payments Innovation." Join us for a focused deep dive into what's working in payments modernization right now, then unwind on the links for golf and socializing.

The morning starts with industry leaders from Atos Group, AWS, and Red Hat breaking down advanced modernization strategies. They’ll present proven approaches for building payment systems that can handle even the harshest conditions, while keeping pace with the accelerating demands of AI applications.

Cockroach Labs’ David Joy will walk you through how CockroachDB is solving some of payments’ trickiest problems: maintaining compliance while scaling globally, keeping data consistent across regions, and building systems that don't go down when you need them most.

You'll also hear from Global Payments' Jess Tays about what payments resilience looks like in practice, followed by a fireside chat with AuthZed's Jake Moshenko and David Joy on planning ahead for authorization at scale.

Next, let’s decompress: After the morning sessions we'll break for lunch, then head out to the Atlanta Athletic Club's classic par-3 course for a casual round of golf. (Formal presentations are great, but the fairways are where the real breakthroughs take place!)

We’ll wrap it up with a social hour, perfect for networking with other architects, developers, and IT decision-makers.

"Payment processing failures don't just cost money — they erode customer trust and can trigger regulatory scrutiny," says Cassie Zimmerman, Senior Director of Global Alliances, Cockroach Labs. "According to recent research, 53% of banking and financial services companies have experienced service disruptions at least weekly – they realize that their payment infrastructure must be bulletproof. That means moving beyond legacy architectures that were never designed for today's transaction volumes and AI integrations."

“By pairing CockroachDB’s multi-region, strongly consistent architecture with the reach of AWS’s global infrastructure, payment providers can authorize and settle transactions anywhere in the world — instantly and without compromising correctness,” Zimmerman explains. “Attendees will see how distributed SQL underpins real-time fraud detection, low-latency cross-border processing, and built-in regulatory compliance, giving teams the resilience and agility modern payments demand.”
